Providing essential services to the most vulnerable populations required a tool built specifically for their private care team, and a brand they could all stand behind.

Unlocking the potential of a growing brand

Thompson Community Services (TCS) is a private BC assisted living company that supports individuals with developmental disabilities and their families across the province. By delivering a unique package of services, TCS has been able to grow beyond their base in Kamloops as an increasing number of families have requested their help from Prince Rupert in the north of the province to Richmond in the south, but their website wasn't keeping up with this success.

The Brief


Reimagine the brand

One of the key brand and design deliverables was to create a connection with existing and future clients no matter where they were in the province. One of our key findings was to transition from the geography-limiting name “Thompson Community Services” to the more neutral “TCS.”

Extend the borders of the community online

As TCS increases its services across British Columbia, the key function of the website (aside from conveying its story) was to give each site visitor the sense that TCS was an organic part of their community.



Create autonomy for care workers across the province

As care workers stray farther away from head office, each staff member needed to have the same information at hand. Bringing this sensitive care information online was essential to growing their service areas with success.

Brand Strategy

The company name and brand identity did not reflect the high quality service that they offer which is unique to the private sector care industry. By assisting in brand repositioning workshops we guided the TCS team to find a new brand essence that would better reflect a cross-province company. Through extensive workshops exploring voice & tone and other investigative techniques we created a brand bible for the client to clarify their mission and values which became the cornerstone for the identity. This brand strategy allowed us to hone in on a new purpose for the entire organization and a north star for the brand: "Enhancing each day for each individual" which became the new brand tagline.

Art Direction

The old logo had an abstract concept that was hard to understand. The idea of individuals embracing each other was lost on viewers and the type did not compliment the icon design well. Through the discovery process, dozens of different directions were explored that took the original concept of the individuals and incorporate some of the identified company values. The concept of lifting up an individual to live their best life was the presented direction. After iterating on the concept of silhouettes in a number of different styles, we rested on the simple upward arms which became a nice continuation of the old identity's original concept but infused new meaning of uplifting an individual which laddered back to their new brand north star.

UI Design

In addition to creating the regional content for the site, the website was designed to convey information about a visitor’s specific community with no more than two clicks. The final website is a lovely intersection of expression, functionality and purpose.

Company Employee Portal Design

The limitations of manually updated charts by paper became an impossible task to keep all staff updated day-to-day as operations expanded over thousands of kilometres and served dozens of rural communities. A secure application that was easy enough for home office admin and health-care providers to use was essential to maintain thorough documentation and scheduling of all their clients. This portal has allowed TCS to scale their operations and provide outstanding service and consistency to all their clients in their care.
